The Coast of Maine difference
Here at Coast of Maine we are proud of the quality and consistency of our compost-based soils. Compost, we believe (naturally decomposed organic matter) is the key ingredient. Ours are made using carefully designed and tested recipes which include the very best ingredients (sustainably sourced from pristine ocean waters and local farms) combined with rigorous quality controls. We never use biosolids, municipal or household waste. Close attention to detail with frequent turning, sampling and testing plus a lengthy aging and curing process produces dark, rich compost.
We believe Quoddy Blend™ Organic & Natural Compost with Lobster & Crab is the ideal soil amendment for maintaining gardens, beds, borders, and as a base for over-seeding and repairing lawns. It is carefully formulated to provide the balance between structure, water retention, drainage and aeration needed for growing vegetables, annual and perennial flowers, trees and shrubs as well as lawns. It provides your garden and grounds all the rich and diverse soil
they need.
We use all natural ingredients
Quoddy Blend is a naturally lightweight, dark rich soil made from compost, sphagnum peat moss, aged bark, and lobster and crab meal. The lobster we use comes from the cold, dark waters of the Downeast coast of Maine and the Bay of Fundy. Lobster shells make an exceptional addition to this all-purpose soil amendment.

Follow these few, simple steps
Soil conditioner:
Quoddy Blend™ is the ideal soil conditioner. To recondition poor soil, work 2 inches into the top 4 to 6 inches of soil. To maintain established beds and gardens, (for roses, most vegetables, herbs and flowers) top-dress with 1 – 2 inches of Quoddy Blend™
Planting trees & shrubs:
Dig a hole as deep and twice as wide as the root ball. Place the plant in the bottom so the stem is centered and the crown slightly above the rim of the hole. If the root ball is burlap wrapped, make sure to cut away the top wrapping to free the stem. Fill in with equal parts of Quoddy Blend™ and soil, tamping around the plant. Water thoroughly and regularly until the plant has established itself. Feed regularly with an organic plant food.
